Roya Naldi is one of the few singers today specializing in vocal stylings of the 1920s and early '30s. Drawing inspiration from Bing Crosby, Cliff Edwards ("Ukulele Ike"), Al Bowlly, Annette Hanshaw, and others, she croons with passion and romance, captivating listeners with favorites and obscurities from the Jazz Age.
This limited edition 78 rpm vinyl record features four exclusive performances made just for this EP. You will not find them on any other record or CD. "He's the Hottest Man in Town" recalls the "hot" vocal style of Cliff Edwards in the mid-1920s. "I Ain't Lazy -- I'm Just Dreamin'" was notably recorded by the Isham Jones Orchestra and receives a suitably relaxed treatment here. "If I Could Be With You (One Hour Tonight)" starts wistfully, then ramps up with some hot stride piano by Andy Schumm. The EP closes with the touching: "You Call It Madness (But I Call It Love)" longingly sung by Roya with honey-sweet cornet by Andy Schumm. All four are full-length performances; we have taken advantage of microgroove's finer threading to fit nearly 10 minutes of crisp, hi-fi sound on each side of this 10-inch 78.
Personnel: Roya Naldi (vocals); Andy Schumm (cornet, clarinet, tenor saxophone, piano); Jimmy Barrett (banjo)
Both sides were recorded in Chicago, January 14, 2021.
Limited edition pressing of 550 copies.
Note: This is a stereo, microgroove, 10-inch vinyl record meant to be played at 78 RPM. It is compatible with all modern turntables (post-1950s) fitted with a stereo cartridge and capable of spinning at 78 RPM. For best results, we strongly recommend a cartridge capable of tracking at 3-4 grams. Rugged cartridges designed for DJ use (like the Stanton 500, Shure M44-7, or Ortofon VNL) work better than delicate, high-end "audiophile" cartridges. Use an ordinary LP stylus; no special stylus is required. This record should NOT be played on vintage "wind-up" machines with steel needles. For your convenience, a complimentary downloadable MP3 version of the record will be provided upon checkout.
