Among the notable features of this range is the selective choice and combination of pigments to give a superior granulation effect to the colours. Granulation is often achieved simply by mixing paint with the highly granulating Black Pigment PBk11, but Schmincke have enhanced the granulation effect by the combination of two different pigments which are highly granulating by themselves and are equally harmonious together. This is a unique solution that no other paint manufacturer has achieved. In addition, some of the paints in this series beautifully fall apart into several pigments, such as Glacier Green, which uses two pigments, green and brown. The beautiful shades of these special effect watercolours will transform your paintings, enabling you to achieve incredible, effortless texture.

It is recommended that the for the best granulating effect the best paper to use will have a rough or structured surface such as Torchon (rough). This will allow the pigments to separate and settle irregularly in the ‘valleys’ of the paper texture. More absorbent papers require a little more water. Unsuitable paper textures are Cold Pressed (medium) and Hot Pressed (smooth) papers.
