Songs of Praise is the ferocious debut album from South London’s post-punk troublemakers, Shame. Originally released in 2018 on Dead Oceans, this record bursts with raw energy, cheeky attitude, and biting social commentary that refuses to sit quietly in the corner.

Kicking off with the explosive “Dust on Trial” and charging straight into the angular chaos of “Concrete,” the album sets its tempo early and rarely lets up. The band’s breakout single “One Rizla” stands tall with its blend of vulnerability and swagger, while deeper cuts like “Gold Hole” and “Tasteless” pull no punches in both sound and subject matter. “Angie” closes the album on a slower, emotionally gutting note because even punks have feelings.

With a sound that nods to The Fall and Gang of Four but feels entirely its own, Shame rip through these 10 tracks with slashing guitars, pounding rhythms, and Charlie Steen’s snarling vocals leading the charge. It's confrontational, funny, political, and weirdly danceable. Basically, everything a modern punk album should be.
