The Sanquhar pattern is a variety of patterns developed over the past few hundred years, in the former Royal Burgh of Sanuqhar. A small town in Dumfriesshire south Scotland.
Traditionally the colours were black and white, generally highly contrasting colours and knitted into gloves and stockings using the patterns. They were a way to help supplement household incomes. The Sanquhar design has been handed down from generation to generation to this day.
