What this book is about:

You sit there bewildered. Across the kitchen table, your young’un has just declared “I am queer non-binary” or “this body is not who I am.” You did not think your family was that messed up but this is throwing you for a loop. Once again, you feel out of your league in this whole parenting thing.

Or, perhaps a friend has confessed to your teen that he or she is trans. Your child is asking you how to respond. You are at a loss.
Or, an uncle has begun estrogen treatments and is asking your family to use a new name for him. How do you advise your child on engaging with him? Or, is it her? How do you even interpret the request? And how do you prepare your younger children to live in and engage the now-prevalent trend in the culture?
Or, maybe you have seen some clothing in a drawer that stopped you in your tracks. You are putting two and two together and realizing that the child you thought you knew has begun leading a double life. At school, your child has taken on a different persona and the school authorities have not informed you, out of a fear that you wouldn’t understand what your child needs. You know you belong in the equation, but feel intimidated by the professionals. How do you win back your kid?
Or, savvy parent that you are, you perceive the enormous cultural changes taking place and you want to know how to teach your younger children on what they are about to encounter just outside your door.
Transgenderism is a big umbrella of a term, covering many conditions and experiences. Thus, a parent or teacher of a teen who stands under it needs a flowchart to get to the heart of what is really going on. Then, you need Biblical principles to help someone reconcile with her body, or embrace a vision for his God-given gender. Where can you find such a guide?

              ENDORSEMENTS

There is no conversation more important than this one, and no book more helpful in forging it. Before one more child is lost to the alienation and deception of the transgender phenomenon, please buy and read this book. Pastor Andreades demystifies this politically charged debate, bringing pastoral care and scripture to bear on its heartfelt questions. This is a must-read. I recommend this book to every Christian home.

Across the Kitchen Table was an absolute privilege to read. There were so many “This section is great” places I highlighted in yellow, topics addressed by someone who has really thought through these matters deeply in conjunction with many experiences in ministering to people.

Overall, this book is meeting a huge need. I’m just glad that I now have a go-to resource to send fraught, searching parents to. I’ll definitely be having our staff read the book as well because I’m sure we’ll be referring back to it time and time again. This labor of love will be used for the benefit of so many families who are in such desperate need.

Most of the church is woefully ill-prepared to respond to the many pressing challenges posed by the “trans” phenomenon.  Sam Andreades’ latest book, Across the Kitchen Table, will help equip you to do so with great charity and great clarity.  With keen insight and sound counsel, Andreades places today’s confusion about the body and gender exactly where it belongs: in the context of our creation, fall, and redemption.  In the process, he shows us that true hope lies not in the technological promise of salvation from our bodies, but in the biblical promise of the salvation of our bodies.

-–Christopher West, Th.D.,  Author, Our Bodies Tell God’s Story: Discovering the Divine Plan for Love, Sex, and Gender, host, Ask Christopher West

What Sam has written is a much-needed resource.  It’s not a word-for-word guide for what to say to your children struggling with gender or declaring a trans or non-binary gender identity.  Rather, it’s a tool to know how to respond to whatever your children might say, laying a foundation of truth from Scripture and general revelation.  His flow-chart for navigating the different types of gender confusion is invaluable.  And he has unearthed some real gems from the Bible that are desperately needed in this discussion, giving insights to buttress against potential “got ya” rebuttals and doubts that our children may have.

Obsessed. Soothing, effective, fragrance-free, incredibly healing
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I’ve been loving this so much I bought a second bottle after a few days of using it. It has all the skin soothing benefits of the tolerance lotion cleanser, but it’s also a really great cleanser. It’s almost not noticeable how good it is at cleansing because your skin doesn’t feel stripped after, but it takes things off really quickly. I was worried because it doesn’t foam a lot and it feels so nurturing — much like the tolerance lotion cleanser (which I use as a second cleanse when my skin needs a few days to recover from something like a derm office treatment) — but when I wash again with my favorite HG cleanser nothing extra comes off, and I tested it twice on waterproof eyeliner that I’d swiped on my forearm for an hour or so, the eyeliner dissolved and wiped off with two or three gentle swipes. It has a very emollient texture, so when you rub it against your skin it slips so easily you don’t realize it’s dissolving and taking things away because there is no friction. So it’s great at taking off makeup, it’s AMAZING at cleaning makeup brushes, and IT DOES NOT BURN MY EYES AT ALL. Also, it is FRAGRANCE-FREE… before I bought it I read a review complaining about smelling a citrus fragrance, that person either has some sort of brain tumor or something spilled on their bottle when it was in a warehouse because this is definitely a fragrance-free product. Prior to trying this, I had tried another cleanser that gave me weird acne hives all over my chest (never happened to me before) and I was struggling to heal the acne and the irritation. I noticed an immediate difference when I started using the tolerance cleanser on it; the fresh redness went away, the acne started healing, and the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation has been healing fast. So I’ve been using this on my body as well and it’s soothing and moisturizing in all the places where other things have been drying. I have mild rosacea and I hadn’t realized how irritated my skin was from the last thing I’d tried until after 5 days or so of using this my skin tone looked much more even and the stubborn PIH I have from a two-zit hormonal breakout a month ago finally looked dramatically lighter (as recently as the week before, I’d needed to cover them with high-coverage concealer). Because this doesn’t foam much, some people might not realize how well it’s cleaning… I encourage you to judge it based on how your skin looks and feels. Since it is very emollient though, I do think it’s important to use it with a face wash scrubber or washcloth just to ensure you’re getting some mild mechanical exfoliation and clearing away skin cells that could be trapping stuff in your pores. For this reason, I do wash my face with this twice so the first wash can get off makeup/debris/oil and then the second wash can really penetrate and clean my skin.

              No Scent and Gentle
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I broke out in a case of Perioral Dermatitis recently and bought this product to help before I could see my doctor. Avene Tolerance facial cleanser has no scent and is very gentle on my skin. It didn’t burn when washing with this product, and even helped to slough off the dead skin around my lips. My face feels clean, not dry. I am still going to see my doc to get an RX for the inflammation, but I do believe this product helped to alleviate the dryness and tightness of my skin and lips. I’ve used other Avene products and I’m very happy with them. Even though these products are more expensive, to me they are well worth the money because they are much more gentle on the skin than any other products I’ve used. I will buy this product again just because of the fact that it’s so gentle. PS: at the time of purchase for this product, I also bought Avene’s Tolerance Control Skin Recovery Cream (you don’t need to use a lot of this one on your entire face), and Avene’s Cicalfate for lips. Between these 3 products, my lips and skin feel a lot better (however, I will still see my doctor because I have Crohn’s Disease and Perioral Dermatitis is considered an extra-intestinal side effect of Crohn’s).

              Gentle everyday cleanser!
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
My go to nightly cleanser! Gentle yet effective. Removes makeup without leaving any residue behind. Also does not dry out my skin or cause breakouts! I would say it’s more of a cream cleanser though. It does not really foam up. It’s a decent size bottle for the price. The pump dispenser is an added plus!
