Rivermont is pleased and proud to present this collaborative recording by three generations of the world's finest ragtime performers.
The late Ian Whitcomb entertained for over fifty years. Originally from England, he hit the American Top Ten charts in 1965 with his novelty record "You Turn Me On." He appeared at the Hollywood Bowl with the Beach Boys and on televison programs such as American Bandstand. After touring with the Rolling Stones and the Kinks, he abandoned life as a British Invader to devote himself to resurrecting the roots of pop music, especially ragtime and the songs of turn-of-the-century Tin Pan Alley. Whitcomb was also an author with twenty published books to his credit, including a biography of Irving Berlin and After the Ball, a history of pop music from rags to rock. He wrote and performed music in films and produced the Grammy-winning CD Titanic: Music as Heard on the Fateful Voyage.
Adam Swanson, one of the most celebrated young ragtime pianists active today, is a four-time winner of the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest and is known from his appearances at ragtime festivals across the United States and internationally. In addition to a duet recording with the legendary Johnny Maddox, Swanson has released many other solo discs on Rivermont.
Danny Coots is one of the most sought-after drummers on the ragtime and traditional jazz scene today. He has toured in ninety countries and appeared with Vince Giordano, Neville Dickie, Bob Darch, Randy Reinhart, Rebecca Kilgore, and others.
For this recording, Whitcomb, Swanson, and Coots have selected a diverse program that includes standards such as "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee" and "I Love a Piano," while mixing such overlooked treasures as the comic "He'd Push It Along," "The War in Snider's Grocery Store," and a charming tune associated with vaudeville team Van and Schenck, "Huckleberry Finn." The disc also includes a number of Whitcomb originals. The CD comes with a handsome 20-page full-color illustrated booklet with notes by Ian Whitcomb and Adam Swanson. 47 minutes.
