Natuurlijke verfstoffen

Deze sjaal is geweven en geverfd in de Dehradun-regio, in het Himalaya-gebergte in India. Vrouwen in afgelegen dorpen weven de sjaals en kleuren deze met natuurlijke bronnen uit hun omgeving.

Geverfd met bloemen (Tesu)

Deze sjaal is geverfd met zogeheten Tesu-bloemen (Butea Monosperma). Dit zijn de bloemen van een boom die van nature voorkomt in Zuidoost-Azië. De boom bloeit vanaf januari met spectaculaire vermiljoen rode en oranje bloemen. Hij wordt dan ook wel de vlammenboom genoemd.
