De feministische Joyce lag nooit helemaal lekker in haar thuisland Brazilië. Aan zangtalent ontbrak het haar niet, dus vertrok ze naar New York, waar ze snel genoeg door producer Claus Ogerman (O.a. Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday) werd benaderd. Het resultaat Natureza, opgenomen in 1977 met de absolute creme-de-la-creme van sessiemuzikanten, zag echter nooit het daglicht. Nadat de Braziliaanse hype in Amerika op z’n retour leek, en Joyce beviel van een derde kind, verloor ze het contact met Ogerman. Het enige overgebleven exemplaar van het album, Joyce’s persoonlijke cassette-kopie, is nu 50 jaar later eindelijk voor het grote publiek beschikbaar.
