Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia, inhabiting slow-moving rivers, streams, and flooded forest areas with sandy or muddy substrates and abundant hiding spots.

Omnivorous bottom-feeder. Accepts sinking pellets, flakes, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis), and live foods. Occasional vegetable matter, such as blanched zucchini or spinach, can be offered.

Peaceful and social. Best kept with other non-aggressive species of similar size. Ideal companions include tetras, barbs, rainbowfish, peaceful cichlids, and catfish. Avoid very small fish that could be mistaken for food.

Low. Highly social; should be kept in groups of at least 5–6 to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress.
