Hand knotted as an 8'1'' × 10'4'' Indo Sarouk Oriental area rug, this traditional botanical design is crafted from premium New Zealand wool with a medium pile of approximately 0.50 inches over a durable cotton foundation. Woven at an impressive 200 KPSI, the rug showcases the fine articulation, durability, and surface clarity associated with high-quality Sarouk-inspired rugs, making it suitable for long-term use in formal living spaces. The field is arranged in a refined all-over floral composition rather than a dominant medallion, allowing the eye to move fluidly across the surface. Delicate floral sprays, rosettes, and palmettes are interconnected by scrolling vines, symbolizing harmony and renewal in classical Persian design. A rich turquoise ground evokes openness and calm, while ivory and beige florals bring contrast and definition. Blush and soft red highlights add warmth, balanced by green foliage and deep blue outlines that enhance depth and precision. A lighter ivory Sarouk-style border frames the design with structured repetition, reinforcing symmetry. This hand knotted wool rug works beautifully as a statement Oriental rug for living rooms, dining areas, or refined transitional interiors.- Exact Size: 8'1"x10'4"

Story Behind the Art: Within the global Oriental rug trade, the name Sarouk refers to carpets traditionally woven in and around the city of Arak, along with neighboring villages and the Farahan plains of central Iran—an area celebrated for centuries for superior weaving craftsmanship. During the 19th century, Sarouk rugs were typically produced with intricate all-over patterns such as Herati and Gul Hennai motifs, woven with roughly 100 asymmetrical knots per square inch on strong cotton foundations. By the late 1800s, influenced by the grandeur of Persian Tabriz carpets, Sarouk workshops transitioned toward more formal factory-style production, introducing central floral medallions with precise symmetry. Following World War I, Sarouk weavers pioneered a defining stylistic shift: open fields adorned with delicately detached floral sprays scattered across the surface. This refined composition became the hallmark of Sarouk rugs, captivating collectors and interior designers worldwide. Today, Sarouk-inspired rugs continue to be woven in Iran as well as India, Romania, and Pakistan, carrying forward the enduring legacy of Persian artistry.
