Sowing Season (Winter):
-
Optimal Sowing Time in Pakistan: November to December
-
Straw Flowers prefer cooler temperatures for germination and early growth. They thrive in winter conditions with full sunlight exposure.
Growing Instructions:
-
Soil Preparation:
-
Use well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Sandy loam or garden soil (50%) mixed with compost (50%) works best.
-
Ensure the soil pH is between 6.0 and 7.5.
-
-
Sowing Seeds:
-
Sow seeds directly in pots or seed trays or indoors 4 - 6 weeks before transplanting.
-
Lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil or compost (about 0.5 cm).
-
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
-
-
Germination:
-
Seeds usually germinate in 10 - 15 days at temperatures of 15 - 20°C.
-
Maintain moderate humidity for better germination.
-
-
Transplanting:
-
When seedlings develop 2 - 3 true leaves, they can be transplanted into the garden.
-
Space plants 20 - 30 cm apart to allow airflow and proper growth.
-
-
Care & Maintenance:
-
Water moderately; avoid overwatering as Straw Flowers are drought-tolerant once established.
-
Fertilize lightly every 3 - 4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer to encourage continuous blooming.
-
Deadhead faded flowers to promote new blooms and prolong flowering season.
-
Additional Tips:
-
Straw Flowers love full sunlight, at least 6 - 8 hours per day.
-
Can be grown in pots, containers, or garden beds.
-
Excellent for cut flowers and dried flower crafts, as their colors last for months.
