A Georgian sterling silver butter dish of round form with a glass liner and removable lid decorated with a stylish finial. Simple and classic in form, the lid bears a Coat of Arms and has been inscribed with the year 1817. A fine piece for any Georgian silver collection.
The butter dish is marked for Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard. Rebecca Emes is celebrated as one of England’s most accomplished female silversmiths — the widow of John Emes, she formed a partnership with Edward Barnard shortly after his death. Together they created exceptional silver pieces of enduring quality.
The butter dish will be double boxed and a signature at delivery will be required.

English sterling silver. Maker’s mark for Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard, mark entered 14 October 1808. Leopard’s Head mark for the London assay office. Date letter "U" for 1815. Monarch’s Head duty mark.

Condition
Very good for age and use. Small ding on the edge of the lid and bottom of the dish; minor surface scratches, all consistent with age.
