About the Wine: In the hills of Valdelsa, in Castelfiorentino, the Castello di Oliveto is a noble slice of the land’s history. One of Tuscany’s most beautiful historic castles, it was built in 1424 by the Florentine Pucci family, for the pleasure of connoisseurs of fine flavours, it creates wines from the grapes grown in its own vineyards on the estate’s hills and aged in the castle’s cellars. Much of the estate’s land is left wooded to keep the original natural environment intact, just as it was admired and painted by Renaissance artists. The name Oliveto, meaning olive grove in Italian, is for the historic olive tree orchards that are still on the estate. Honouring tradition, the olives are harvested by hand and brought whole to the olive press, where they become a wonderfully fragrant extra virgin olive oil. Grapes are likewise harvested strictly by hand. The entire production process takes place within the winery, from fermentation to bottling
