Some garden objects are purely practical, and some are a pleasure to own. This is firmly the second kind. The Sophie Conran Large Harvesting Basket — made by Burgon & Ball, the Sheffield toolmakers working in steel since 1730 — is the basket you'll find yourself reaching for not because you have to, but because using it makes the simple act of gathering from the garden feel just a little more considered.

It's the kind of piece that earns its place twice over: out in the kitchen garden gathering beans, courgettes, and the first tomatoes; and back indoors as a thing of quiet beauty — holding kindling by the stove, styled with seasonal blooms on a kitchen table, or simply hung on a hook waiting for the next harvest.

The design

Sophie Conran, of the well-known Conran British design dynasty, brings a contemporary country-house sensibility to the Burgon & Ball range. This basket is the result — a piece that manages to be both genuinely useful and genuinely lovely, which is harder to achieve than it sounds.

  • Powder-coated galvanised steel wire in a classic grey — strong, weather-resistant, and built to last years of outdoor use without rusting or losing its finish
  • Open-weave construction — the practical heart of the design. Soil shakes free and rainwater or washing-water drains straight through, so freshly picked produce and cut flowers don't sit in a puddle at the bottom
  • FSC-certified beech wood handle — gently contoured to sit comfortably in the hand, adding a warm, natural counterpoint to the cool grey steel
  • Brass seal engraved with the Sophie Conran for Burgon & Ball logo — a discreet mark of provenance and the finishing touch that signals this is the genuine article

Generously sized

This is the large basket in the range, measuring approximately 37cm long by 26cm wide by 30cm high including the handle. That's enough capacity to gather a proper harvest in one trip — an armful of cut flowers, a glut of runner beans, a row's worth of potatoes, or enough salad and veg for a household rather than a single meal. If you have a smaller plot or want something for lighter picking, Burgon & Ball also make a small version of the same design.

What you'll use it for

  • Harvesting vegetables — beans, courgettes, tomatoes, potatoes, squash, the daily pickings of a productive kitchen garden
  • Cutting flowers — the open weave is ideal for a cutting garden, letting stems breathe and any water drain as you gather dahlias, sweet peas, and cosmos for the house
  • Collecting eggs — for those with hens, the basket is a classic egg-gathering size and shape
  • Carrying tools — trowel, twine, snips, and gloves all travel neatly from shed to plot
  • Indoor styling — kindling by the fire, a centrepiece of seasonal stems, or simply a beautiful object on a dresser or worktop

Made by Burgon & Ball

Burgon & Ball have been making fine garden tools in Sheffield since 1730 — nearly three centuries of metalworking heritage. Today they're endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society and known worldwide for the quality and longevity of their tools and accessories. A Sophie Conran piece carrying the Burgon & Ball name is about as well-credentialled as garden kit gets: thoughtful British design, made by one of the country's most respected toolmakers.

A note on care

The powder-coated steel needs little attention — rinse off soil after use and let it dry, and it will look its best for years. The beech handle benefits from being kept out of prolonged wet; an occasional wipe with a little linseed oil keeps the wood nourished and handsome over time. Store under cover when not in use to protect the handle, and the basket will become one of those garden objects that simply gets better with age and use.

A genuinely lovely gift for a keen gardener — the kind of present that's used and enjoyed for years rather than tucked away in a cupboard. The combination of the Sophie Conran name, the Burgon & Ball heritage, and the obvious everyday usefulness makes it an easy choice for a milestone birthday, a house-warming, or a thank-you to someone who has everything except, perhaps, the perfect harvest basket.

Hot enough to melt the ice rink
Format: Kindle
This was yet another great read by Cassie Cole. June has just started as the trainer for the Atlanta Reapers. Succeeding in this male dominated role is important to her, but the more she learns about these men the more she wonders if some things are worth risking everything for. As their trainer, the men are supposed to be off limits, but they can't deny the pull they each feel. The closer to Cole, Rhett & Elias she becomes the more she realizes that she may not be able to choose between them. Is it worth the risk to her career to continue to pursue a relationship with one of the men.... let alone the risk to all their careers if they would be open to consider a more unconventional relationship. Is love worth the risk? Read this steamy story to find out!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Hat Trick (A Hockey Reverse Haven Romance)
Format: Kindle
I loved this book, what a trip! All the things a girl could want, plus getting Alice involved with their family. Nothing better than a lot of sex and love and a great sport, the baby sill be so spoiled when they have one, wow. Reverse harems are a favorite of mine. What a treat with this family, poly amorous it is. Interesting to the end. See you next time.

Editing and Hockey Research Would Have Made This Better
Format: Kindle, Format: Kindle
A bit of editing and research needed here. Maybe I’m just a hockey fan, but if you’re going to use actual NHL teams as opponents, please make sure you use actual NHL teams and not NBA team names. At the beginning of chapter 24, they play the “Philadelphia 76ers” which is NOT Philly’s NHL team. That’s an insult to Gritty and the Flyers, Philly’s actual NHL team. Honestly, if you’re going to use a fictional NHL team, them just make all the opponent teams fictional too. Additionally, I believe that trainers have an entire area to themselves, not just an office with one or two tables. June wouldn’t have to go through the locker room to tear the players; more likely she has her own space and office area. war the workout and recovery areas.

I loved the characters and the storyline. Even a little mystery weaved in to the RH experience. The story made me laugh, cringe, hold my breath, and get sweaty. The love scenes were 🔥🔥🔥 🔥!!!! Great story to read!

So So Amazing
Format: Kindle
I received this book wiht the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review. In this book we meet June Wilder, Rhett Lawson, Cole Thibault, & Elias Nystrom. When this book opens we find that June has just joined the Atlanta Reapers as their new physical trainer. From the moment she starts she knows that she is going to get push back but there is something about not only this team but these guys that have become more to her than she thought when she first started. Rhett is the kind of guy who make a joke with anyone. One night when something happens with June he realizes there is something more than just jokes with her. Cole has been compartmentalized his life for years now. With the addition of June to the team he finds himself finding a person who understands his compartments and lets him be him. Elias is a man who is a an island. When he learns that opening up to one person who sees him allows him to grow and heal in many ways. Can they all find a HEA or will their positions make that impossible? Another amazing story by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
