The sound of My Sonic Lab cartridges is the result of master cartridge designer Yoshio Matsudaira seeking natural reproduction by minimizing signal loss, internal distortion, and phase distortion. The Eminent EX utilises Matsudaira-san’s unique SH-μX magnetic core. This special core material has a higher permeability and flux density than the core material typically used in MC cartridges.

It allows My Sonic Lab to use fewer coil windings than other moving coil cartridges, minimising distortions that degrade the signal while at the same time not sacrificing signal output. This high efficiency approach results in a wide dynamic range, fast transient response, low distortion and high signal-to-noise ratio. Users around the world have commented on the ability of My Sonic Lab cartridges to communicate tremendous natural detail, clarity and revealing new layers of information from their favourite records.

A key reason for the exalted sound of My Sonic Lab cartridges is the heritage or provenance of the creator. This can often help to explain why something sounds the way it does. Creating cartridges that produce this level of performance is only possible with immense experience and talent. Previous to founding My Sonic Lab, Mr. Matsudaira worked with Yoshiaki Sugano and played a major role in developing the original Koetsu Onyx cartridge. The two had met previously at Supex. Early in his career while Matsudaira-san worked with Sugano, he also designed a cartridge for Luxman, which is how he met Miura-san. They developed a close relationship which many years later led to Matsudaira designing and manufacturing cartridges for Air Tight while he was with Audio Craft. In 2004, after three decades of designing and building MCs for nearly every top Japanese cartridge manufacturer, Matsudaira started My Sonic Lab. He still does OEM/ODM for many of Japan’s top brands.

The Signature Gold was released for My Sonic Lab’s 10th anniversary. Matsudaira-san evaluated every aspect of his previous Eminent designs for areas to be improved. A stronger two-component chassis, higher grade internal wiring and improvements in the suspension led to a more refined sound. However, it is the 10% larger SH-μX core that makes the Signature Gold excel at energetic expression and power.

When the Signature Gold was released, many around the world considered it to be a game changer. Compared to the Eminent designs, the Signature Gold has more extension, slam, power, and dynamic range, however the defining characteristic is ….energy! This cartridge sets a new paradigm for sonic performance….it simply makes music feel real, believable and palpable. It has a perfect top to bottom coherency and endless detail. Even seasoned audiophiles have reported shock at how much more information was hiding in the grooves, far more than rationally seems possible. Isn’t this a medium with maximum 70dB dynamic range, surface noise, and grooves that get too close together when the music is too loud? Not at all! This simply blows apart the perceived or accepted limitations of the medium. Winner of the prestigious Stereo Sound Magazine 2012 Grand Prix Award.

Quotes

Japan’s Stereo Sound

I’m wondering how and why a cartridge came to reproduce such a good sound; in other words, why has such a cartridge not come out until today? Compared to the current cartridges, certainly uplifted by several stages, this cartridge beautifully traces any discs, thus presenting you wonderful sounds. I take this as a breakthrough in cartridge.

Listening Impressions: The Sig. Gold is more neutral with a flatter tonal/frequency response. It is slightly more extended in the bass and treble. It is extremely resolving and it has explosive dynamics. I had never heard the amount of pure energy on the Sheffield Drum Record and on the Bosendorfer piano on Beethoven’s Appassionata from my system. Full orchestras also had an increased power and scale from even my small system based on the Magico Mini II speakers. It really was incredible. With this cartridge, I feel as though I’m hearing more from my records than ever before. And it is very natural sounding.

A very important book
This is one of those books that I’ve known for a while that I needed to read, but I expected it to be dark and depressing. It was hard to prepare myself for it. After it had been on my Kindle a while, I decided that I just needed to take the plunge. I’m glad I did. It deals with a very unpleasant aspect of American history, as told by a formerly enslaved man in the 1800s. It’s not a pleasant topic and the author relates it in very neutral terms. He doesn’t involve his own emotions in what he experienced as a child and young man. He doesn’t have to. The evil that was inflicted on him speaks for itself. The book is extremely well written and it goes fast. It’s educational, but it doesn’t read like a school book. I know that this author has written other books and I do intend to read them at some point. Not right now though. It’s an intense read and I need some time to digest it.

But really it is a great, easy and fun read
Most people who pick this up are probably looking for history and possibly race issues. Which since it deals with slavery are there slightly. But really it is a great, easy and fun read. Many people act like they think they know what slavery was like. They act like slaves got whipped daily. This historical account actually verifies some things I thought might be actually going on. Really, just like today, the slave masters wanted to keep the slaves ignorant. Fred talks about how they tried to get the slaves to party and get drunk during holidays and has a solid working theory about the masters motivations for this. However, many times you could tell that slavery was really a system doomed to fail. Without incentivising the workers/slaves the output was minimal. Also, each slave master was different with some being bullies and some trying to be nice to get more work done. I added this book to get the free shipping with another order and as I white guy I thought reading this would be uncomfortable. But Whatever race you are I recommend this as a quick easy and fun read. Fred was an awesome dude who taught himself to read, had a wife became free and wrote a book, and even got in a comical fight with one of his slave masters. I wish more people today were like that guy. I think if he were alive today this guy would be a member of the Libertarian party. He had the type of soul that yearned for freedom.

Tour De Force
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
The book ranks for me as one of the most significant, erudite, thorough and powerfully voiced books ever written on race in America. This a riveting, compelling and excruciating presentation, indictment, and prosecution of "White America" from its inception as a psychopathic and sociopathic construction, which persists into the present. "White" America exists juxtaposed to its violently parasitic extortion of Blackness. While the book makes the case for pathology and sociopathy, no such “racism” diagnosis currently exists in the DSM or WHO-ICD, but such a diagnosis is a logical extension of King’s argument. I bought this book, the workbook and I listened to the audio version - which is an especially rich experience for anyone who is remotely empathic! 350 references alone should intrigue anyone looking for a mother lode of information on the topic! We cannot jump straight to renewal in a United States of America without truth and reconciliation. For us to realize our best days ahead as a nation, the truth presented in The 400 Year Holocaust . . . is foundational reading.

A must read
Format: Kindle
Mr. King shakes up the thinking and challenges your mindset on American exceptionalism. The only thing exceptional about USA, is it's foundation is rooted in Whiteness. All the laws, policies, institutions, and wealth are designed to support and protect Whiteness. This book is a must read if you want to learn how the history of USA is shaped around Whiteness and white privilege. Mr. King does not hold back and he brings many receipts to support is position that Whiteness and white privilege psychopathic and sociopathic Black genocide. After reading this book, you will better understand why a certain political group wants to ban books. They are so afraid of confronting their truth and their history of anti-Blackness.
