A stunning reproduction Staunton chess set featuring 1869-style ebony pieces with crown markings, a walnut chessboard by Rechapados Ferrer, and a handmade wooden storage box.

In particular, the knights and bishops are beautifully detailed, and as reproduction pieces they also bear the original marks of the king's crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook. Placed on the king's flank, this was a practical innovation to identify their position on the king’s side of the board, as, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the ‘queen's knight ' or the ‘king’s rook’.
