Twenty-five years on from its famous début victory in the 1995 Le Mans  24 Hours, the wonderful McLaren F1 GTR is the subject of this major two-volume history. Derived from the BMW V12-powered three-seat McLaren F1 road car, the F1 GTR only came into existence because of customer pressure on designer Gordon Murray to produce a racing version. With 28 examples built over three seasons, the F1 GTR was fabulously successful, winning 41 of its 131 races and taking two international championship titles. This sumptuous book outlines the life of the McLaren F1 GTR in exhaustive depth, with Volume 1 devoted to race-by-race narrative and Volume 2 to individual car histories and the stories of the people who raced them, all supported by over 775 colour photographs.

Key content

  • Design and development of the F1 GTR, including thoughts from Gordon Murray, the car’s designer and also writer of this book’s foreword.
  • Racing in 1995: besides the celebrated McLaren victory at Le Mans, F1 GTRs dominated the BPR Global GT Endurance Series, winning 10 of its 12 rounds, with John Nielsen and Thomas Bscher narrowly emerging as champions in Bscher’s West-sponsored car.
  • Racing in 1996: a second all-conquering BPR season delivered the championship title to Ray Bellm in his Gulf-sponsored car, partnered by James Weaver, while a campaign in Japan’s national championship saw John Nielsen and David Brabham crowned champions.
  • Racing in 1997: the F1 GTR evolved into Long Tail form and a BMW-funded team arrived to join the action, taking all five McLaren victories in the new FIA GT Championship, although the Schnitzer-run team’s quickest drivers, JJ Lehto and Steve Soper, narrowly missed out on the title.
  • Racing in 1998: Steve O’Rourke’s privateer F1 GTR Long Tail achieved a remarkable fourth overall and the GT class win at Le Mans, but by now the FIA GT Championship had become a Mercedes benefit and the two participating McLarens were outclassed.
  • Twilight years in Japan: two F1 GTRs soldiered on in Japan from 1999 to 2005, achieving one more victory, at Miné in 2001.
  • Car histories: all 28 F1 GTRs receive detailed resumés of their lifetimes, complete with period and modern photographs showing them in their myriad guises, often with various changes of colour and livery over the years, plus conversions to road use.
  • The people: key McLaren and team personnel provide first-hand recollections, followed by views of the men who raced F1 GTRs successfully, from Le Mans achievers Yannick Dalmas and Derek Bell to multiple winners Ray Bellm, Thomas Bscher, John Nielsen, Andy Wallace, James Weaver, JJ Lehto and Steve Soper.

The dogs loved it! Will buy again.
    Style: Squeaky Chicken
My dogs have really enjoyed all the layers to this toy. It squeaks and has a noisy film on the inside of the cloth that they really like. The toy itself is very stiff and rigid but they like that. It’s been about 3 months and they recently broke through the pink layer so it lasts quite a while. It was a challenge for them to get the layer off once they had broken through the stitching so it would keep him occupied for a very long time.

    My dog LOVES this, but...
    Style: Squeaky Duck
My dog loved this right out of the box, she didn't learn to squeak it for a couple of hours, but she just stopped playing with her other toys, ragged as they may be... My dog is a Manchester/hound dog mix, of some sort, I'm only sure about the Manchester, she resembles them in look, size, weight, and all else. She weighs approximately 20-ish pounds, or so. With that said, like I said, she loves it, so much so that within 16 waking hours after its arrival she brought me the inner squeaker, the body was in the kitchen. :) She tore off the top part of the head and gained access to the squeaker, and EXACTLY as advertised and other reviews, it is a really good squeaky toy, she really doesn't seem to mind that the outer portion is gone, the (seemingly) durable squeaker might actually last. She can still play with the 'body', the toy is made that when (not if) they rip off an appendage, the nentire innards WILL NOT come out. It's a well designed toy in that respect. So, at times she will play with that too, she has brought me the BODY several times too, My dog is a really CRAZY chewer, she is somewhere under a year old and she will chew on anything that she is in front of her, including rocks, a blade of grass as she runs by, furniture legs, window sills, you name it, she has eaten it. She is a problem dog, but we picked her, and we'd do the same if it was our kid, we wouldn't throw them out. :) She has to be watched constantly, that is not the most fun, but, like they say, 'It is what it is'. I mention all of that to show that even though she is a crazy chewer, the rubber portion of the toy is still 'with us', for now, I will update this if anything else develops, and I am sure it will. Oh yeah, I really need to add, I don't think that the makers can make a chew toy 'outer' from anything that will last that long, not unless you go to a rope material, and I did not want that, it can be swallowed and cause more trouble. (Fabric can be swallowed too, but it's at least softer...) So, really, more than likely you can't get any better than this if your dog is a crazy chewer too.

    Awful Durability
    Style: Squeaky Chicken
My dog had this toy for all of 30 minutes an COMPLETELY destroyed it. He is not an aggressive chewer, and has had plenty of rip and reveal toys from Bark Box last WEEKS. I thought I'd try out another brand, but I will be swiftly placing a Bark Box order. I am very disappointed in the durability and quality of this toy thay is supposed to survive non-agressive chewing. If I could give 0 stars, I would have.
