What it is used for
- Boundary fencing with standard timber fence panels in residential gardens
- Supporting composite fence panels, including DuraPost Urban and Vento boards
- Feather-edge board fencing where a rot-free, low-maintenance post is required
- Replacement of failing timber or concrete posts without specialist equipment or groundworks machinery
Fitting and handling
The H-section profile slots fence panels or boards in directly without additional fixings in most cases, and one person can carry and position the post without mechanical assistance. For a secure installation, drive or concrete the post into the ground to a minimum depth of 600 mm, or follow DuraPost's guidance for your soil type and fence height. Once in the ground, neither the galvanised nor the powder-coated black finish requires any ongoing treatment, painting, or preservative application.
FAQ
How deep does a DuraPost Classic steel fence post need to be set in the ground?
DuraPost recommends a minimum installation depth of 600 mm for a 2400 mm post used with standard fence panels. On softer or sandy soils, or where the fence is exposed to high wind, a slightly greater depth or the addition of post concrete will improve long-term stability.
Will the DuraPost Classic accept standard 1800 mm x 1800 mm fence panels?
Yes. The H-section profile is designed to accept most standard timber fence panels, feather-edge boards, and composite panels at this width. Panel widths of 1800 mm sit neatly in the channel, and no secondary fixing brackets are needed in most applications.
What is the difference between the Galvanised and Black variants?
Both posts use a galvanised steel core for corrosion resistance. The Galvanised variant has a natural zinc-coated finish suited to utilitarian or hidden installations. The Black variant adds a powder-coated finish, giving a clean, modern appearance that suits contemporary garden designs. The Black post is priced higher to reflect the additional coating process.
