The Popoto Modem Deckbox is a rugged, topside acoustic communication hub designed to extend and simplify the use of Popoto underwater modems. Built for surface-side deployment, it combines reliable data transfer, flexible interfacing, and high-capacity logging in one compact package.

Two configurations are available:

• DB-100-55 – Incorporates the PMM5544, providing dependable performance and efficient topside control.

• DB-100-6 – Incorporates the PMM6081, offering greater performance and versatility for advanced applications.

Both versions support data rates from 80 bps to 10,240 bps, with transmit levels up to 190 dB re 1 µPa @ 1 m. They enable sub-meter two-way ranging, real-time PCM streaming for acoustic signal capture and playback, and extensive data logging expandable via microSD or external SATA drives.

Integration is streamlined through APIs for Python, MATLAB®, C++, JSON, MARIA, and more, as well as hardware interfaces including Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422, SPI, I²C, GPIO, and analog inputs. With its durable design, the Deckbox is well-suited for use aboard vessels, in labs, or at shore stations, providing a flexible and reliable topside solution for managing underwater communication networks.
