Immaculate construction in leading Bali factory

The Carnival Slap Djembes are made in a superb world-leading djembe manufacturing facility in Bali. Each drum is subject to rigorous quality control and features a sophisticated one-piece body construction. This ensures a lively and consistent sound, a sleek profile, and enhanced durability. The lightweight, sturdy construction is an essential benefit for constant use in education. Plus, the rubber-coated base prevents slipping, crucial for the physical demands of playing.

An innovative teaching tool

Slap Djembes are not only sturdy and attractive but also provide great teaching aids. The screen-printed, instructional drumheads make classroom music teaching that bit easier by showing students exactly where they need to hit the drum to make different sounds. This helps to speed up the learning process, allowing more time to focus on rhythm, ensemble, dynamics and other musical elements. Brightly coloured, these make for excellent teaching tools, stimulating interest, helping learning to be engaging.

Durable Mylar drum head

The Mylar drum head is precisely tensioned for optimal resonance, offering exceptional durability for even the most energetic players. Mylar is an extremely robust material, often used in aerospace engineering; for drum heads it provides excellent all-weather protection, resisting excessive stretching, humidity, and temperature fluctuations. This helps prevent tuning issues and keeps the head from drying out over time, ensuring a consistent and true sound. Superb production values like this make Slap Djembes the pinnacle in educational and sustainable drumming, supporting hundreds of lessons over many years to come.

These mechanically tuned djembes allow for precise pitch adjustment, letting you find the perfect sound. Available in a range of sizes - 8", 10", and 12” - they bring added versatility to your djembe circle, creating a rich soundscape with varied pitches and dynamics to engage the entire ensemble.

The design on the drum head shows examples of hand positions that can be employed to obtain a fabulous variety of tones from the drum, from punchy bass to cracking highs. When you hit the skin, let your hand bounce back allowing the sound to ring.

The Bass

The best sound is achieved in the centre of the drum. Keep your palm flat and stiff and strike the drum firmly.

The Tone

Straighten all your fingers at the same time. There are numerous hand positions that can be used to create the tone. Think of your hand as a straight extension of your arm, and you should get a solid ‘thud’ sound.

The Slap

This stroke can be played in the same position as the tone, the difference is that one relaxes the hand and arm to hit the drum with a slap-like motion. Spreading your fingers out slightly when they strike the djembe helps create a crisp clear sound.

This man's ability to describe the various monstrosities encountered throughout his journey in such a beautiful, articulate
I found this book, though historic, to be a modern marvel. I find not only the man himself but even more so the writings of Frederick Douglass to be totally FASCINATING! This man's ability to describe the various monstrosities encountered throughout his journey in such a beautiful, articulate, and eloquent way is utterly GENIUS! In reading this timeless masterpiece I discovered that this man bears the unmatched, undisputed spirit of a champion; the undying essence of a true warrior that I'm sure would resonate to any and every reader who would be so bold as to take a glance at the greatness that lies between the pages of this work of genius. This man's profound desire to acquire knowledge and educate himself by whatever means necessary exudes a ground shaking, bone rattling determination as I have scarcely; if at all, ever heard of. Frederick Douglass is to me the epitome of class and integrity and can serve as a role model and an inspiration to anyone in search of an incentive to better themselves, even or ESPECIALLY in the face of adversity. In this BRILLIANT account of his heroic journey from slavery to freedom he bestows a wisdom; a very keen insight, and he embodies an honor, the likes of which I have never seen in ANY other writer. I HIGHLY recommend this book to ANYBODY who is in search of inspiration or just a GREAT read!

Simply the best narrative I have read...
As society moves about, the slavery of the past remains alive and well. "Sweep it under the rug and do not bring it up" is the mindset of many. This type of suppression is often brought about because of the known guilt of an unfair past. American slavery has deep roots, reading the life of Fredrick Douglass, will help unveil some of the true history of America. At one point in the book Douglass realized he had past the time of being an indentured servant and knew that being a slave for life was his fate. He was treated with little if no respect. Douglass described Mr. Severe, one of his "masters", as a man who would whip a slave for almost no reason at all (22). Dougless illustrated that Mr. Severe had no respect for his slaves, but treated them as if they were not human. Many people may think that Douglass story was the exception, but that's not the case. Many times through out the book Douglass spoke of other slave's punishment as far worse than his own. He even recorded the murder of two slaves in Talbot, Maryland and stated that the slave owner never paid for the crime (31-33). This type of abuse almost seems unfathomable, but it's reality. Studying the origins of slavery can allow us to see the disgusting progression of the enslavement of human life and stripping of human character. Douglass' narrative provides the reader with a glimpse into the life of a slave. The emotional state of Douglass was strong, considering the abuse that he underwent during his life. The narrative of Fredrick Douglass is a superb read for anyone wanting to get a first hand understanding of the life of an American slave.

A very important book
This is one of those books that I’ve known for a while that I needed to read, but I expected it to be dark and depressing. It was hard to prepare myself for it. After it had been on my Kindle a while, I decided that I just needed to take the plunge. I’m glad I did. It deals with a very unpleasant aspect of American history, as told by a formerly enslaved man in the 1800s. It’s not a pleasant topic and the author relates it in very neutral terms. He doesn’t involve his own emotions in what he experienced as a child and young man. He doesn’t have to. The evil that was inflicted on him speaks for itself. The book is extremely well written and it goes fast. It’s educational, but it doesn’t read like a school book. I know that this author has written other books and I do intend to read them at some point. Not right now though. It’s an intense read and I need some time to digest it.

But really it is a great, easy and fun read
Most people who pick this up are probably looking for history and possibly race issues. Which since it deals with slavery are there slightly. But really it is a great, easy and fun read. Many people act like they think they know what slavery was like. They act like slaves got whipped daily. This historical account actually verifies some things I thought might be actually going on. Really, just like today, the slave masters wanted to keep the slaves ignorant. Fred talks about how they tried to get the slaves to party and get drunk during holidays and has a solid working theory about the masters motivations for this. However, many times you could tell that slavery was really a system doomed to fail. Without incentivising the workers/slaves the output was minimal. Also, each slave master was different with some being bullies and some trying to be nice to get more work done. I added this book to get the free shipping with another order and as I white guy I thought reading this would be uncomfortable. But Whatever race you are I recommend this as a quick easy and fun read. Fred was an awesome dude who taught himself to read, had a wife became free and wrote a book, and even got in a comical fight with one of his slave masters. I wish more people today were like that guy. I think if he were alive today this guy would be a member of the Libertarian party. He had the type of soul that yearned for freedom.
