BB-62 New Jersey was laid down in the Philadelphia Navy Yard on 16 September 1940, as the second ship of Iowa class battleships. The Iowa class was planned with a view to rival the super battleships (Yamato class-to-be) planned by Japan, which withdrew from Washington and London treaty in 1936. Its design represented that the class was 45,000 tons (the very limit to the London Treaty), nine 16in/50cal guns in three batteries, and speed 33 knots. The speed was decided under precautions against the Japanese Knots class battleships, which boasted of speed 30 knots. To fulfill the conditions, its engine compartment for a high-power engine needed to be large on however, the width of US warships was limited to 33m. Because the US faced two oceans and its ships had to pass through the Panama Canal. Inevitably, the waterline of the Iowa class was as long as 262m. Although the US navy at that time had the know-how of 18in guns, they could not be mounted on a ship under 33m-wide. And the fact that the Yamato class had 18in guns was not known to the US until the end of the WW. New Jersey entered service on 23 May 1943 and experienced several battles in the Pacific Ocean with Iowa. The next 1944 she became the flagship of the 3rd fleet with Adm. Halsey on board. On 30 August 1944 she left the Pearl Harbor to participate in Battle of Leyte Gulf. Then she and Iowa were expected to confront with Adm. Kurita’s fleet with Yamato and Musashi. It was, however, not realized because of Adm. Ozawa’s decoy operation and Kurita’s mysterious U-turn. In 1945 New Jersey participated in Battle of Okinawa as the flagship of the 7th Battleship Squadron and supported landing attack. Opposingly the Japanese Navy ordered 10 warships including Yamato to Okinawa. On the way Yamato was sunk by aerial attacks by US aircraft carriers. The duel of the battleships between Japan and the US was forever unrealized. After the war the Iowa class ships except the 3rd Missouri were in mothballs. In 1950 the Korean War occurred and brought New Jersey back to the battlefield. New Jersey supported the landing attacks to Wonsan in May 1951. In 1968 New Jersey alone entered service the Vietnam War and made gunfires on several coasts in Vietnam until March 1969. In December she accomplished her task. The Iowa class ships were believed to end their lift as the last battleships. In 1980 Reagan administration ordered the revival of Iowa class ships under the project of beefing up the US naval force. New Jersey was the first to be modernized and entered service in December 1982 with Harpoon, Tomahawk, and Cutting-edge electric devices. In July 1983 she participated in the blockade mission in Nicaragua. Subsequently she bombarded the positions of Syria. Finally Iowa class ships were formally deleted From the Navy list as the US cut down the expenses on national defense under the end of the Cold War. New Jersey is now preserved as a memorial ship in Bayonne, N.J.

Fallen for the Fallen Angel – A Guilty Pleasure Worth Every Page
Format: Kindle
There’s something deeply irresistible about a dark academia or trial-based setting, a brooding and arrogant fallen angel, and a fierce heroine with enough sass to go toe-to-toe with him. Wings So Wicked is exactly that kind of book—and I devoured it in just a couple of days. To be fair, the plot isn’t groundbreaking. If you’re looking for something fresh and innovative in terms of storyline, this might not be it. But if your reader heart beats faster at the mere mention of enemies-to-lovers, jealousy-fueled banter, magical trials, betrayals, and forbidden tension—you’ll feel right at home. It’s like catnip for those of us with this particular weakness. The chemistry between the leads could have used a slightly slower burn to make the tension sizzle longer, but I still found myself completely invested in their dynamic. There are moments and phrases that feel a bit cheesy or underdeveloped, but honestly? I didn’t care. The vibes were exactly what I wanted. This book isn’t trying to reinvent the genre—it’s here to give readers like me what we crave: high-stakes magical drama, angsty romance, and the thrill of watching a badass girl and her brooding counterpart clash and spark. If that sounds like your kind of story, Wings So Wicked will hit the mark. Here’s hoping Book 2 turns up the heat and keeps the magic alive.

my new favorite book
Format: Kindle
Ok so I never write reviews but this book was so good I felt the need to write this. Firstly your introduced to Huntyr you see her closed off hard core badass than towards the end you see the most subtle change and growth it’s amazing and the enemies to friends to lovers was just perfect, AND THE TWIST AT THE END GOT ME GOOD! You see one spicy scene the whole book but it doesn’t even MATTER BECAUSE THE BOOK WAS THAT GOOD. I’ve read 85 books in 2023-2024 so far and I’m pround to say this is my all time favorite. I’m so excited to read more of Emily Blackwoods books, this was my first time reading one of hers and I’m glad I did because HOLY!! Well done Emily well done

Fast paced romantasy you will not want to put down!
Format: Kindle
4.25 stars! I LOVED this book with similar vibes to Hush Hush, Fourth Wing, and The Serpent and the Wings of Night! It was fast paced with easy world building and will keep you turning the pages late into the night because you will not want to put it down! Huntyr is a fierce bad@ss FMC trained to kill vampyres her entire life. She is sent on a mission to go to the academy and earn her spot into The Golden City. Upon arrival, she is forced to room with the delicious fallen angel, Wolf, who is the only one who knows about her assassin identity. The romance, the plot twists, the secrets revealed, the battles, and the tantalizing training scenes had me hooked! And that ending…. I’m holding my breath in need to know hell! Read if you love: 🪽 Fae, Vampyres, Fallen Angels 🪽 Academy setting with magical trials 🪽 Forced proximity and slow burn 🪽 Rivals to lovers 🪽 Hidden identities and secrets 🪽 Tend your wounds “𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶. Excellent Rivals to Lovers!!
Format: Kindle
The tension and banter between Huntyr and Wold was delectable. I absolutely love the fallen angel and all of his flaws. Huntyr is amazing too being a badass FMC with some major trauma. The world building was great and I enjoyed the training aspect of the story. The writing was immersive and was in the story the whole time. The ending had quite a twist that I hadn’t anticipated and made my jaw DROP. Excellent job! I also loved the narration. Laura is one of my fave narrators!

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5
