Artist Biography
Antonio De Vity (1901–1993), born Umberto Marone in Naples, was an Italian painter known for his romantic European cityscapes. He studied at the Liceo d'Arte in Naples and later spent several years in Paris, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts and developed a strong appreciation for the architecture and atmosphere of historic European cities.
During his time in Paris he adopted the artistic name Antonio De Vity, which became associated with atmospheric paintings of Parisian streets, Venetian canals, and other European landmarks. After returning to Naples he founded a successful art studio that became an important meeting place for artists from Southern Italy.
Beginning in the 1950s the studio gained international recognition with exhibitions in Brussels (1953), Marrakech (1955), and Madrid (1956). De Vity’s paintings were exported internationally and became widely collected decorative works depicting romantic European scenes.
Later the studio was directed by his son Achille, who continued painting under the name Antonio De Vity, helping maintain the popularity of these recognizable cityscape compositions among collectors.
