Rebecca Solnit has made a vocation of journeying into difficult territory and reporting back, as an environmentalist, antiglobalization activist, and public intellectual. Storming the Gates of Paradise, an anthology of her essential essays from the past ten years, takes the reader from the Pyrenees to the U.S.--Mexican border, from San Francisco to London, from open sky to the deepest mines, and from the antislavery struggles of two hundred years ago to today's street protests. The nearly forty essays collected here comprise a unique guidebook to the American landscape after the millennium--not just the deserts, skies, gardens, and wilderness areas that have long made up Solnit's subject matter, but the social landscape of democracy and repression, of borders, ruins, and protests. She ventures into territories as dark as prison and as sublime as a broad vista, revealing beauty in the harshest landscape and political struggle in the most apparently serene view. Her introduction sets the tone and the book's overarching themes as she describes Thoreau, leaving the jail cell where he had been confined for refusing to pay war taxes and proceeding directly to his favorite huckleberry patch. In this way she links pleasure to politics, brilliantly demonstrating that the path to paradise has often run through prison. These startling insights on current affairs, politics, culture, and history, always expressed in Solnit's pellucid and graceful prose, constantly revise our views of the otherwise ordinary and familiar. Illustrated throughout, Storming the Gates of Paradise represents recent developments in Solnit's thinking and offers the reader a panoramic world view enriched by her characteristically provocative, inspiring, and hopeful observations.

A must for dry cracked heels.
Size: 6 Pairs - 6 Colors Assorted
I have to keep on top of my feet because the bottom of my heels get really dry. I have to soak them every 2 weeks so they don't look like horse hooves. With the spring and summer coming, the feet get drier , flip flops and sandals or any shoes without shocks really make them feel worse. These REALLY help maintain my soles beautiful and cushiony. I love to be barefoot around the house and these give the the feel of barefeet and the comfort of a sock on the heel. At night i always put lotion on my feet but can't sleep with socks because i overheat, these i can put my lotion and then a little urea stick on the heel and put them on and sleep like a baby.
These need to be hanwashed and air dried to preserve the integrity of the gel on the sock. Just be aware of that. Fit wise i am a 7.5 on the wider side and these fit very well without being tight anywhere. I also put these on with flip flops and they look great and feel better too.

definitely recommend these to anyone who’s struggling with rough dry heels
Size: 6 Pairs - 6 Colors Assorted
I was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of these socks. They feature a soft gel-lined interior that helps absorb intense moisture from my dry heels. After wearing them for a couple of nights, I noticed a significant improvement in the texture and appearance of my heels. These socks stay in place while sleeping and don’t slip off. Additionally, I appreciate that they are reusable and can be washed.

Really works!
Size: 6 Pairs - 6 Colors Assorted
This is a true moisturizer sock that actually works to heal and nourish dry heels. You will definitely see a difference within the first 2 hours! The only thing for me is the scent is over bearing and too strong if your sensitive to smell. Let me know when a scentless sock are made and I'm there! 5 stars because the socks truly works.

Seem to do what they are advertised for.
Size: 6 Pairs - 6 Colors Assorted
Price was decent. They fit fine. Decent colors. They give decent instructions of how to use them. I do feel that they give a decent support even though they're mainly for helping with dry cracked heels (which they also seem to do a decent job on). I haven't washed my first worn pair yet, but they seem like my regular socks in materials so they should hold up well.
