The 26" Chau Gong is iconic in appearance. It is what many people see in their mind’s eye when they think of a Chinese Gong. The bull’s-eye design is created by the metal lathing between the rim of the gong and the center. The Chau Gong will start deep, and is helped by the rim on the edge. The lathed band allows for a good, balanced crash of overtones when the volume is built.

The 26" Chocolate Drop Gong is similar to the Chau Gong, but with the outer dark ring lathed off. This makes the Chocolate Drop look and sound brighter than the Chau Gong. It also increases the musicality of the overall tone, with good depth under a shimmery layer of harmonics.

Recently blown in, these Dark Wind Gongs are similar to the traditional Wind Gongs, but with an unlathed outer edge. The unlathed part controls the crash, creating less splash than a wind gong and preventing the gong from opening up sound-wise like a fully lathed gong.

The 26" Mother Tesla Gong is a take on the classic Chinese gong. It is fully unlathed, creating a dark tone and appearance. By not polishing the gong, we get less of a forced pitch or crash, and more of a spectrum of tones that are organic to the bronze. It will have a deep and mysterious sound.

The 26" Solar Flare Gong is a less traditional Chinese Gong than some of the other styles. It’s a more recent design created by Chinese gong makers and is available to all gong sellers, so we felt compelled to put it in the Traditional section. It is basically a Wind Gong, but with concentric bands of lathed and unlathed circles. The unlathed parts control the crash and splash, less than a Wind Gong. The rings concentrate the tones and it does not open up sound-wise like a fully lathed gong.

The 26" Subatomic Gong is a spin on the classic Chau gong. We added an additional lathed band on the outer rim, creating a little bet more musicality and balance to the classic Chau Gong sound. This gong sings like a choir. It is deep and balanced and beautiful.

The 26" Trilogy Gong shares kinship with our Mother Tesla gongs, being mostly unlathed save for the point in the center and the three shining rings that encircle it. It has a deep, layered sound. It is slower to crash and maintains a sonorous, oscillating tone.

Great things often come in threes: primary colors, states of matter, blind mice, and rings on an Unlimited Trilogy Gong. The rings on this gong help give it a steady tremolo, or ripple effect. Fitting, as the rings resemble a ripple in still water. (perhaps made when there was no pebble tossed nor wind to blow, as The Grateful Dead would say

The 26" White Gong has a rim like a Chau Gong but is also fully lathed like a Wind gong. As expected, the White Gong has qualities of both these traditional Chinese gongs. The full lathing creates a bright, airy sound with a shiny splash, but the rim focuses that splash, and gives clarity to the overall sound.

The 26" Wind Gong is fully-lathed, all shiny. It also does not have a rim; it is flat on the edge. This design gives the Wind Gong its splashy celebratory tone when struck with a quick fast attack.
