Turn your acoustic kit into a Hybrid Drum Kit or E-Drum!

With the drum-tec groovedot as a reliable edge trigger system and optionally also the drum-tec groovebar as a variable center trigger system, your drum kit becomes an E-Drum. You don't need a new set. You can expand your favorite acoustic drum set with the unlimited possibilities of an E-Drum in just a few steps. You can then play it as an E-Drum, use it as a hybrid drum set and continue to use it purely acoustically at any time without having to expand the groovedot triggers for this purpose.

What can the groovedot do?

The groovedot is an edge trigger that is installed directly on the inside wall of a drum shell. It captures your drumming finely and precisely. You need one groovedot per acoustic shell. You can use groovedots for your snare drum, your bass drum and in the rack toms and floor toms on your acoustic drum kit. The groovedot Dual Zone electronically transmits one edge trigger and one head trigger signal. The groovedot Single Zone is perfect for your bass drum as a single trigger with head signal detection only. A drum module can reproduce your individual performance from the signals in a realistic and natural way.

What makes the groovedot special?

Due to the simple but ingenious design of the groovedot, the two triggers for head and rim signal detection are mechanically decoupled. So a pure head stroke can't trigger a rim sound and a stroke on the rim won't produce a head sound. Your module always gets clear signals and a crosstalk of the sounds by resonating of the other trigger is avoided. This design makes the groovedot the ideal rim trigger system in all kettles where you play both the head and the rim. The groovedot Dual Zone is complemented by the grovedot Single Zone, which is a single trigger that precisely detects your bass drum playing on the drumhead and does not require edge detection.

The look of your set remains "acoustic"

You play a vintage acoustic drum set in top condition? You like the look of your noble premium kit? You want understatement in the look of your set, but full surprise for the audience when you play it? You want acoustic look with high end sound? Groovedots are ideal for that. The system is invisible from the outside. Only a small cable leads from the air hole on the side of your cauldron facing you to the module. Groovedots are suitable for any acoustic drum kit. From a simple entry-level set to a used Maxtone or Pearl Export to a high-end drum set or vintage drum. In any shell, the groovedot provides access to unlimited sound possibilities!

Instantly playable built-in triggers

The drum-tec built-in triggers are ideal for retrofitting an acoustic drum. You don't have to attach anything to the outside of the shell, you don't have to drill a hole, solder anything, or change anything about the look. Your set stays visually as it is. The groovedots are simply mounted inside on the screws of the existing pedestals.

Your sound possibilities go through the roof!

Every drum kit has its own sound. A Yamaha recording set sounds different than a Sonor Lite, a birch shell different than a rototome. How would it be if you always had the choice? With the groovedot and a good module, you can play unlimited sounds. Instantly and at the push of a button. The edge triggers from drum-tec make sure that your playing on your acoustic set is recognized in all its subtleties and an E-Drum module can bring to life from it all the nuances of the drum sound of your choice.

Playable with drum heads and mesh heads

The groovedot is convincing in interaction with conventional drum heads and with mesh heads. You can continue to play your acoustic set as an acoustic drum kit. The built-in trigger works just as well with acoustic drumheads as it does with E-Drums mesh heads. It's your choice whether you play a quiet E-Drum with mesh heads and acoustic look, or keep the acoustic sound and enrich it with the E-Drum module sound. The acoustic sound of your heads is also only minimally muffled by the lightly fitting foam head of the head trigger.

Head trigger without hot spot

The installation position far at the edge of the vessel reliably prevents overdriving of the signal by possible hot spot hits. These are strokes directly on the surface of the trigger, which would produce a distorted signal. Hot spots can occur with systems where the trigger is placed directly in the center of the hitting surface.

Flexible built-in triggers for many years of fun

The system lends itself to installation in any type of drum kit. You have a real vintage drum? You don't want to ruin the look of your expensive acoustic drum kit and don't want to drill holes in the shells? You want endless sound possibilities even for your beginner set? And someday you'll buy a new expensive acoustic kit and want to use the E-Drum technology of the old hybrid drum kit there? The groovedot triggers will accompany you as long as you want. You can remove them just as easily as you mounted them. No changes remain on the shell. The groovedots can be remounted as often as you like.

The drum-tec groovedot trigger system works with most E-Drum modules on the market. It works perfectly with any Roland E-Drum module from TD-3 to TD-17, TD-27 to TD-50 and TD-50X, with the Mimic Pro module from Pearl, all Roland Octapads and Multipads, the ATV module aD5 and xD3, all modules from EFNOTE and many more E-Drum modules.

Stable and light - and Handmade in Germany

Highly stable components made of metal and plastic protect the sensitive trigger piezos, which, with hard-wearing cylinder cones made of special foam, ensure permanently reliable pulse detection and first-class trigger signals. Compact dimensions and light weight make groovedot triggers compatible with any drum shell. Groovedot rim triggers are handmade in our drum-tec manufactory in Germany.

All-around good chair, suitable for me at 6'6", comfortable and no issues
Pros: The assembly is straightforward and doesn't require much strength; I would expect my mother to have no issue putting this chair together. If you're elderly or disabled, a relative or helper should have an easy and quick time of putting it together, and there is very little chance of making a mistake during assembly. Sturdy at and slightly above the recommended weight limit. I peaked around 256 or 258lbs while using this chair, and it didn't show any signs of complaint then, and it hasn't shown signs of wear since. Really comfortable. I'm an eight-hours-a-day user, almost without exception, and I have no complaints. The leather holds up very well. I don't expect this to be true forever, but after approximately 1800 hours of use, there is no tear or warning sign. It leans back super stably. That's the most important aspect for me. It's tall enough to support my 6'6" frame. My back rests comfortably, so the odds are yours will fit, too. For the scary few who tower over me, and so you can search it easily, here's a height guide: 6'3" 6'4" 6'5" - The chair is good for your heights 6'7" - You should also be well served, unless your height is mostly in your torso. 6'8" - You're at the cusp. I think you will be comfortable in this chair, and alternatives that are built for our (mostly your) height cost so much more. I'd give it a try. I wish you luck. 6'9" 6'10" 6'11" - This is written for 6'9. For 6'10, 6'11, scale the significance of the caution. I think this chair will prove uncomfortable for you or encourage bad posture. I'd encourage you to look elsewhere. Cons: This is well covered in other reviews: the caps that cover up the screws on the side of the arms are poorly designed. One falls off every day or two. It's a minor inconvenience, but it's optional. You can toss the caps in the trash. The screws are not exposed. They sit deep within the plastic of the arm. Personally, I just push the covers back on when I notice they fell. The armrests could be better for me, I think. I'm not sure exactly what my complaint is. I think they are a little too narrow for my liking, but I'm 6'6" with broad shoulders and long arms and unusual joints. The spacing seems fine for a typical user. Notes: I only sit leaning the chair back or sitting up straight at the edge of my seat. Some aspects of this review may not translate perfectly to locked-in-place, sitting back, upright usage.

Awesome!
Update: March 2022 - Funny reading my previous review now. All the cons I mentioned before, I literally don’t even notice at all. In fact, I like the chair I got so much I just got another in white. My boyfriend is using the old one and I needed one for my home office. And sadly, my cats did scratch up the black chair a little (the cats live outside now) but the chair has otherwise stood up to use perfectly. Other than the scratches, is basically like new. I do wish I knew of a good repair kit cause I would like to fix up the scratches. The chair is just extremely comfortable and supportive which I need even more these days for my home business. A very good purchase!! I just received my chair 2 days after ordering it. It took me about 20 minutes to put it together which was very easy. I am sitting in it now typing this review. Pros: -Very attractive. I ordered the black color and it appears just as in the pictures. -Slides smoothly over my linoleum floors. -Seat is soft and comfortable, hopefully it will stay that way over time, but too soon to tell. -Very easy to assemble. -The seat is good size for the average American and seems comparable in width to the chairs I use at work. Cons: -The chair does not lower as much as I wanted. I like my legs at a 90 degree angle when sitting. It is close with my shoes on, but about 2 inches to high. If I had known this, I very likely would not have ordered this chair as its one of my most important features for sitting comfortably. I am 5'6”. I hope that with a little wear the cushion will compress a bit, and if not I may get a small foot stool to solve the problem. -As others have described, this chair pretty much doesn't recline in any appreciable way even at the loosest setting. Basically to stay reclined you have to keep your legs pushing back the whole time which eliminates the point of reclining. I have read from others that over time, this loosens up. This feature is not very important to me, but may be to others. -The seat depth is about 2 inches shorter than I would like. Overall, I think it is a quality chair for the price assuming the above negatives aren't deal breakers for you. I will be keeping this chair since I do not spend a lot of time at my desk and the overall quality outweighs the few negatives for me.

Updated after less then 3 months of owning!
I have only had the chair a few hours now so this review is of first impression and details. I usually wait to do reviews but choose to on this one. Things I noticed that maybe important to others as information: If you are a tall person you may want to measure your height and etc. I am 5' 6" Tall 175lbs. and this chair is perfect size for me. it does have some room 20" max width from arm rest to arm rest. seat is 19" deep from back to front, Back Height from seat is 26" to top (Will be a little more height when sat on) but this being said the top of my head is just perfectly at the top of the head rest height. Putting it together is a breeze and anyone could put this together, Everything's Labeled to fit the instructions, packaged well. Took me about 10 minutes. Pros: Very Comfortable, Perfect size for me, Looks Great, Easy to put together if you follow the easy directions. No tools needed (Tool is included), Arm rests Height Perfect, Cons: The Back is only held together by the arm rests, This I find very odd but possibly normal to all chairs. If you rock the chair back and forth you can feel the back flexing (This I believe to be why others have claimed the chair squeaks and makes noise while tilting back). I am going to make a bracket that will attach the back to the bottom of the Seat to keep it secure and sturdy for the long haul. P.S update on the chair after less then 3 months of owning, although the chair is still comfortable but with a major Con. with normal daily use the fake leather on the arm rests has started to crack and peal. I will not be buying this chair again nor recommend to anyone.

I really wanted to like this chair,
it looks good, it is a nice size, and it starts out pretty comfortable. The vinyl seems pretty durable and I've not had the troubles others have noted with seams tearing or starting out faulty, mine have been near perfect. Assembly is easy, just 12 screws and you simply put them all in finger tight, then toque them down a bit at a time over about 3 passes to get them evenly tight while letting everything balance out as it goes. Much like changing a car tire. If you install one screw and tighten with all your might then move on to the next you'll have trouble with anything you try to assemble, including this chair. Assembly is rarely a problem for me, but the issue here is the padding. I weigh less than the weight limit but I'm tall and thin and my muscular bicyclist's butt is apparently too much for this chair's cushions. At 8 months, I gave up on blankets and pillows and Amazon politely replaced my first chair with zero fuss. Two months later I got a job telecommuting and the 2nd chair has gone totally flat in only another month. I really wanted to like this chair, but the padding just doesn't last. Update: I've been using an additional pad in the seat and though I'm not fond of the look, the price is right since I already paid for the chair. A couple days ago I leaned back and hear a "pop". The back is all floppy and so I take it apart looking for the problem. I tracked the problem to a metal bracket inside the upholstery. I had to cut the vinyl to reach the problem but found the bracket is a large well engineered solid steel plate with plenty of surface area to handle the stresses and the wood is top quality plywood with no voids. Amazon did an awesome job having this chair re-engineered and specified good materials, but their assemblers didn't bother to tighten the screws. No amount of engineering can fix lousy assembly work. Amazon is clearly trying here but they're being thwarted by their supply chain left and right. To be fair, the two chairs they have sent me collectively did last enough for the price I paid so I won't be asking for another replacement.
