The Symbol side of this piece shows the Ehwaz rune, which represented the ‘e’ sound in Prto-Germanic languages. Its meaning is related to movement, based in the partnership and trust between a rider and his horse. As a concept Ehwaz can symbolize a harmonious cooperation of two forces that want to achieve the same goal. Ehwaz stands for locomotion, but with the notion that it is an ongoing process. With Ehwaz, progress can be made as long as one is aware that the greatest challenge is to be patient with the process. Ehwaz can also symbolize entering into and harmonizing partnerships, harmony and unity.
Ehwaz belongs to the third Aett of the Elder Futhark, which carries themes of balance, order, and right action. These runes indicate internal energies and resources that we can utilize to combat external forces acting upon us. In this realm, the Ehwaz rune reminds us that forward motion comes with internal awareness.
The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings.
There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations.
These beautiful, handmade Rune Charms are heavyweight, with deep carvings on both sides of the Rune. Each Rune comes with a jump ring large enough to thread on a chain. The one shown is the 2.2mm Square Cable Chain.
Runes are solid Sterling Silver and measure approximately 5/8" high x 7/16" wide x 3/32" deep.
