Mordechai Kuk, a slumlord, and his cronies Weasel and Hamhock, mistake Joel for a building inspector and scheme to kill him.

Helping Joel is Rebecca, a burn victim from the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. For Joel and Rebecca, a romantic experience is just a moment of weakness away.

Joel must figure out how to return to his own time while fighting to stay alive without causing history to change.
