My Safe Word is HarderPraise for MY SAFE WORD IS HARDER "Staring hard at vulnerabilities and refusing to look away, these poems invite us to be radically uncomfortable and to confront what it might mean to transcend ourselves. With Clarke, we can fantasize about a beautiful death, about lovers who don't use us as means to their pathetic ends, about highs that don't wear off and leave us feeling broken, about automutilation that can show us ourselves knowing all the while

Praise for MY SAFE WORD IS HARDER

"Staring hard at vulnerabilities and refusing to look away, these poems invite us to be radically uncomfortable and to confront what it might mean to transcend ourselves. With Clarke, we can fantasize about a beautiful death, about lovers who don't use us as means to their pathetic ends, about highs that don't wear off and leave us feeling broken, about automutilation that can show us ourselves--knowing all the while that our fantasies can't save us. I needed this book and its honesty. I needed these poems."

Lindsay Lerman, author of I'm From Nowhere (CLASH Books)

"This cunning debut is a body navigating its own violence. Murder plots on lovers and self are soldered portraits of lust, gore, and self-image bedazzled by sanctified metaphor steeped in brutality and hopefulness that thumbs its nose at convention. My Safe Word is Harder will have you hearing Clarke's 'crazy head thoughts' and humming them on your way to an existentialism sprouting through concrete."

Freddy La Force, Editor for Vegetarian Alcoholic Press

"McKenna Clarke knows well that life is composed of three, and only three, things: body horror, melodrama, and pornography. She's the David Cronenberg of poetry. This book is her Videodrome.

These are poems about not knowing who you're drawn to, about not understanding why others are drawn to you, and about killing, maiming, and disfiguring yourself in spectacular ways. But it doesn't matter how you kill yourself. The end result is the same, and you'll never remember the theatrics. You will remember these poems, though. But only if you read them. You should definitely read them.

My Safe Word is Harder is the poetry equivalent to a YouTube video that explains how to perform complicated surgery. In this world, it's absolutely necessary."

Nathaniel Kennon Perkins, author of The Way Cities Feel to Us Now (Maudlin House)

"The poems in My Safe Word Is Harder hit. They cut like a razor across the soft flesh of your wrists as you lie in the tub. Both beautiful and vulgar. Rest assured that McKenna Clarke pulls no punches."

Steve Anwyll, author of Welfare (Tyrant Books)

"Life itself is like a car with a check engine light on. Life is riding down the road in that car, looking out the side window and thinking about how beautiful the moon looks, only to realize you're staring at a streetlight. I know this, you probably know this, and McKenna Clarke absolutely knows this. In My Safe Word is Harder, Clarke takes us down the every-which-way of abandon, the absurd sex-lies-and-videotape that builds the reality around each of us--the lives we try to pretend our way through. None of it is safe but nothing about life is safe. In her debut, McKenna leads us through the dark--and the light, each one never quite complimenting the other--and you wouldn't really want it any differently. If there was ever a time or a place for such a set of poems, that time is today."

Joshua Robert Long, author of Occasional Self Portrait and other poems

real good
Format: Kindle
This was a solid read for the ABO universe. The characters are great. The smut scenes were well written. And the town is so cute I want to go there. It didn’t have much character development it just felt like I was getting to the characters as they were getting to know each other.

So sweet
Format: Kindle
It’s so unexpectedly sweet that it sneaks up on you. Each character is so unique and charming. I love the openness and honesty among their pack. It really blows me away how wonderful this omegaverse trope plays out. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Needs editing
Format: Kindle
Cute storyline and promising characters, but the lack of editing is painful to read. I would love to read an edited version.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Fun read
Format: Kindle
I'm not really into mafia books but I love Roxy Collin's other series so I decided to give it a try. It had the same great romance, spice, swoon-worthy characters and exciting plot that are her signature. Arben was my favorite, although it was a bit sudden how quickly he changed from ignoring her to wanting to be pack. There were almost too many twists/layers of lies to keep track of but I'm looking forward to reading the other books. The only thing that detracted from the story for me was the need for a bit more proofreading. It was mentioned that Kelly is a female and male at different points, leading me to think she changed her mind at some point about the character's gender but didn't go back and edit it to align in all places. Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.
