In organising this work the author has attempted to follow each line in order of seniority, though for the earlier generations there are often few clues as to the seniority of the various lines-in these cases the order has had to be arbitrary. It is worth noting that the parish registers of Stithians are very poor for the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. These have been cross_checked with the contemporary Bishop's Transcripts, but these do not exist for every year.
