The Supermarine Walrus was a British single engine amphibious bi-plane reconnaissance aircraft which first took to the skies in June 1933. Operated by the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, it was the first British squadron service aircraft to incorporate a fully retractable undercarriage, completely enclosed crew accommodation and an all metal fuselage. Designed as a fleet spotter to be catapulted from battle ships, or cruisers, it was later deployed as a rescue aircraft, having a capacity for three to four persons.

The Walrus also became one of the first aircraft to be fitted with an undercarriage position indicator on the instrument panel. Test pilotAlex Henshawfound that the Walrus was strong enough to make a wheels-up landing on grass without much damage although he also said it was "the noisiest, coldest and most uncomfortable" aircraft he had ever flown.

When flying from a warship, the Walrus would be recovered by touching-down alongside, then lifted from the sea by a ship's crane. The Walruslifting-gearwas kept in a compartment in the section of wing directly above the engine. A crew member would climb onto the top wing and attach this to the crane hook. Landing and recovery was a straightforward procedure in calm waters but could be very difficult if the conditions were rough.

Here we see the Walrus Mk 1 as deployed aboard HMS Sheffield in 1937 with 712 Naval Air Squadron which itself was active between 1936 -1940, incorporating the period of our model, and again between 1944-1945. With an all-over silver colour scheme, the cockpit is moulded in green and the aircraft comes without bomb racks. Note the machine guns placed fore and aft of the fuselage. Additional decoration includes the RAF roundel on the upper and lower wing tips and the No. 35 painted in black on the fuselage below the clear cockpit window.

Great toy
Great size for a medium to large dog and a good value overall. The carrot foliage is made of felt and can tear easily, but the carrot body and bunnies have typical toy durability. The bunnies include squeakers that are softer and not high-pitched. The holes are sized well—small enough that the bunnies don’t fall out on their own. Even with only a few stuffed inside, they stay put until your dog pulls them out.

I was shocked by how much my daughter's puppy enjoyed this toy!
I've bought two of these — one for my grand puppy to use when she's at my house, and another for her to keep at her house. I was shocked that she actually seems to enjoy playing with this toy! She hunts out all the bunnies and then brings the carrot to me to refill. I refill it, and then she takes the refilled carrot back to her spot and hunts them all out again. If I can't find one of the bunnies (because it's gotten stuck in the couch cushion, for example), I ask her "where's the bunny?" and she helps me find it! This dog is a ferocious chewer but she doesn't chew these toys! It's like she instinctively knows they are for hunting, not chewing. As a result, they have lasted a long time and provide hours of quality fun. Great value!

My Iggies LOVE this toy. Buy it!!!!!
As a new dog mom to Italian greyhounds, I wasn’t sure if they’d like this, but it is their favorite toy!!!! They LOVE playing with the rabbits, chewing on them, squishing them, flinging them and chasing them. My one iggy likes to chew on the carrot and stick her nose in it when it’s empty. I find the rabbits around the house. So cute and seems to be well made. Definitely worth the cost.

Very cute and well loved dog toy.
I have two maltese rescue dogs. One if still a puppy and the other is almost 5 years old. The youngest one is a chewer and goes through toys removing whatever she can as soon as she can. This is a VERY cute toy and comes with the 4 cute bunnies inside. My older dog loves to take the bunnies and cuddle them in her bed. So far the chewer has not been able to take them apart and for that I am very pleased. Very well made, stiched well. I was reluctant at first to purchase because of price, but I believe this is good value for your money.

Cool toy.
Each animal has a squeaker so it makes it good for chewing and retrieving. The squeakers dont last long g enough I use it now to stuff other squeakers in. I won’t ut again.
