This set includes an Ollihess M305 Mallet (with three color options), Dragonfly Resonance Medium Soft Teal Gong Mallet, pair of Unlimited Wind Gong Mallets, and the option to add a pair of Ollihess Lava Friction Mallets (40 and 50 mm) for an additional cost.
We put together this lightweight mallet set for sound therapists, percussionists, composers, and yoga instructors using 32" to 34" nickel silver symphonic gongs made in the European gongmaking tradition.
We included a range of lighter mallets, sized specifically for 32" and 34" nickel gongs, meant to draw out the full range of sounds and subtleties these types of gongs can offer. Read about each of the mallets included below to find what each one provides.
The Ollihess M305 Mallet has a soft, synthetic wool-wrapped head. It has a light, wooden handle, perfectly balanced for the player. It brings a nice, deep fundamental tone while also highlighting harmonics and overtones, all without too much attack or "thunk" up-front or too much crash on the finish. Available in Turquoise, Berry, or Black.
Dragonfly Medium Soft Teal Gong Mallets feature a soft layer of fleece or faux-fur wrapped around a rubber core, attached to a lightweight handle. Their balanced weight provides good control to the player. The combination of rubber and soft fabric provides good response and fast attack without being too clunky.
The Unlimited Wind Gong Mallets get you a snap-crack and a whiz-bang when you hit your gong that you don't get with a heavier mallet. They offer lots of control to the player, making them perfect for gong rolls that build resonant swells to a wash without too much attack (or "thunk").
The Ollihess (40 and 50 mm) Lava Friction Mallets have textured black rubber heads, designed specifically to prevent leaving rubber residue on the gong. These mallets are perfect for creating mysterious whale noises.
