The Snake’s story in the Chinese Zodiac is as captivating as the design itself… 

Long, long ago, the Jade Emperor announced a grand race to determine which 12 animals would earn their place in the Zodiac – the first 12 to cross a fast-flowing river would be forever honoured. Knowing it lacked the strength of larger animals, the resourceful Snake faced the challenge of crossing the river by silently coiling itself around the Horse’s leg, then waited. As the Horse galloped towards the finish line, the Snake uncoiled, slithering ahead and startling the Horse to claim the sixth spot in the Zodiac.

Impressed by the Snake’s ingenuity, the Jade Emperor honoured it with its place among the 12 Zodiac animals.
