Care
General Maintenance: Don't repot unless this plant has become overly root bound. They prefer to be in pots that are quite "snug". Generally, you can repot once a year.Temperature: Room temperatures that average 18-24ºC and no lower than 16ºC. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Light: This plant prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun as this will scorch their delicate leaves. They can survive in lower light, but their leaves tend to have brighter colouring when given more light.
Watering: Keep the soil moist, but not wet. This can be achieved by watering frequently, but in small amounts. These plants are prone to root rot, so generally you will want to wait until the top 2-3in of soil are dry before watering. Water less frequently in the winter months. These plants love extra humidity. Provide this via misting, a pebble tray or a humidifier.
Fertilizer: Use a balanced fertilizer during the growing season (May to Aug). Don't fertilize during the winter.
Soil: Alocasias prefer a loose and well draining soil. This can be achieved by creating a chunky mix via adding perlite and orchid bark to a standard, well draining potting soil.
