"Ashcombe" is the name of the country house in the Wiltshire Downs whose lease Cecil Beaton held for the fifteen years from 1930. In this book Mr. Beaton has wonderfully succeeded in recreating the atmosphere of those days.

A first edition copy of Cecil Beaton's record of his famous country house, with the original dust jacket. '"Ashcombe" is the name of the country house in the Wiltshire Downs whose lease Cecil Beaton held for fifteen years from 1930. In this book Mr. Beaton has wonderfully succeeded in recreating the atmosphere of those days: the period when the house and garden were being made over from their former unkempt and derelict state into the idyllic home which they later became; the day-to-day life of the house and of the servants and friends who did so much to create the atmosphere; the week-ends, when there would be visits from Rex Whistler, Edith Olivier, Augustus John, Tilly Losch, Lord David Cecil, and so many others; and the parties and fetes-champetres, occasions which are likely never to be forgotten either by the guests or their host' (from the blurb). Beaton was said to be heartbroken when his lease to Ashcombe expired in 1945 and this book is his ode to the house and the good-times experienced there.

Doesn’t look like the pictures
Style: 1 Pack - Dragon with Lantern
Another small joke of an ornament. Doesn’t glow. It’s gray with no coloring and it’s small.

Beautiful Solar Angel Garden Statue
I honestly teared up a little when I opened this because it’s even more beautiful in person than I expected from the listing. The angel design with the birds perched across the arms is peaceful and eye catching, and once it’s placed in the garden it really becomes a focal point. I positioned mine in a sunny spot and surrounded the base with a few decorative stones to help hold it in place since the statue itself is fairly lightweight. The solar feature works great, I’ve had it outside charging during the day and the birds automatically glow at night with a soft warm light that looks really pretty once the sun goes down. It gives off a calm, cozy glow that makes the yard feel really inviting in the evenings. The resin construction seems durable for outdoor use and overall the detail is really nice for the price point, though if you look very closely you can see a little bit of glue around the birds. Once it’s set up outside though, those little details fade away and the overall effect is just beautiful. Overall I’m really impressed with this piece and it’s a lovely addition to the garden.
