Indonesia's Independence Day, known locally as Hari Kemerdekaan, commemorates the nation's proclamation of independence on August 17, 1945, ending nearly 350 years of Dutch colonial rule. Led by nationalists Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, the declaration marked the beginning of Indonesia's journey as a sovereign nation. 

Today, the celebration is embraced with nationwide flag-raising ceremonies, parades, and community gatherings, with red and white banners adorning streets across the archipelago.
