Gaerne - SG-12 LE Boots

We like the SG-12 Limited Edition boots because they take everything that makes Gaerne’s flagship boot legendary and wrap it in a wild, head-turning colorway that screams motocross heritage with a modern twist. Beyond the looks, it’s the Dual Stage Pivot System that wins us over—it gives unmatched lateral support without killing your feel on the pegs, so shifting and braking still feel natural. The comfort is next-level too, with Gaerne’s memory cell foam molding to your foot and keeping you locked in for hours of riding. Add in the Grip Guard rubber that sticks to the bike like glue and shrugs off heat, plus a shock-absorbing insole that keeps long days on the track or trail from beating you up, and these boots check every box.

Durability is another reason they’ve earned our respect. The Goodyear Welted sole construction means they can be resoled and keep going for years, while the dual-composite tread is made for traction in mud, wet, or whatever else the ride throws your way. Built in Italy and CE certified, the SG-12 LE isn’t just about flashy style—it’s serious race-ready protection and performance that will stand the test of time.

Key Features:

  • The DSPS (Dual Stage Pivot System) provides superior lateral support preventing over-compression and hyper-extension, while allowing the rider’s foot to feel natural on the peg during shifting or braking.
  • The boot features a PU-injected front shin plate and a strategically designed heel cup for enhanced protection and comfort. The Toe-Box is precision-shaped in the toe area, enhancing the rider's feel of the shift lever, and optimizing bike control.
  • The Closure System comprises four lightweight and replaceable buckles, featuring rubber details for optimal grip and traction during use. Additionally, a Velcro strap on top ensures a precise and secure fit closure. The first two top buckles are adjustable, providing versatility to accommodate larger legs or knee braces.
  • The "Grip Guard" rubber on the inner side of the boot not only provides exceptional grip with the bike but also functions as heat-resistant padding against the inner leg.
  • The interior lining showcases the renowned 'Gaerne Memory Cell Foam', which delivers a customized and supportive feel. This advanced foam ensures an optimal and comfortable experience throughout use, enhancing overall comfort and performance.
  • The insole is expertly molded to provide proper support to the foot. In the rear portion of the foot-bed, a new shock-absorbing material has been incorporated, ensuring comfort during rides. The front portion of the construction is designed to allow for ventilation, promoting air circulation and keeping the foot cool.
  • The Gaerne Goodyear Welted artisanal construction, a technique consistently employed by Gaerne since 1962, ensures the creation of a robust and durable sole structure. This commitment to quality craftsmanship and longevity has become a cornerstone of Gaerne motocross boots. Furthermore, this construction method allows for easy resoling, offering an opportunity to breathe new life into the boots.
  • Our unwavering dedication to Goodyear Welted construction is a testament to our commitment to maintaining exceptional standards in our products.
  • The Dual Composite Sole is equipped with a tailored tread pattern engineered to deliver exceptional traction on cross-pegs, particularly in challenging wet and muddy terrain.
  • The SG12 PURPLE/BLACK/WHITE LE boot is CE certified in accordance with EN 13634:2017 and Regulation EU 2016/425.
  • The SG12 PURPLE/BLACK/WHITE LE boot is proudly Made in Italy.

Walking from La Puy to Finisterre...a well written memoir
Format: Paperback
The key to writing a Camino book--at least from this reader's perspective--it to have a well-written, well-edited, and unique personal account of the adventure. I've read many Camino books that lack these three elements. WTTEOTW has all three elements and is a great addition to anyone's Camino library. The book is paced nicely and makes for an easy read. I was amused that the author had spent considerable time preparing for this trip yet seemed not to have absorbed some important information prior to the trip--e.g. appropriate footwear, the scramble for nightly accommodations, the frustrations that commonly occur while traveling in unfamiliar cultures. Her adjustments along the way provide humor and insight into preparing for things we've not yet experienced in our own lives.

really enjoyable
Format: Kindle
I'm thinking of doing the French route myself (starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port) and have been inhaling other people's stories of the route, whether blog or book form. The writing is engaging, and both funny and touching in places. I liked that the author is willing to note her own faults as much of those of others', but noted the strengths of herself and everyone around her as well. And her love for her husband jumped off the page, which I really appreciated! About halfway through the author's time in Spain I found myself on google maps--a surprising portion of the Camino is available on street view!--and yeah, now I *really* want to go. I'm thinking spring of 2023. Fingers crossed. EDIT: I read the book and wrote this review in late fall of 2021. It is currently March of 2023. I'm flying to France on April 17th, to start in St. Jean Pied de Port. :D EDIT, number two: The Camino was awesome, and I will probably do it again in a few years, and it was fun to reread this book after doing the Camino and be able to remember so many of the places she talks about. <3

Well written informative engaging and evocative
Format: Kindle
I've walked to Santiago twice, in 2016 at 65 from St. Jean and in 2019 from Le Puy and bought the book during the pandemic as I waxed nostalgic for the weeks on the road under load with beer bread and bed waiting each afternoon. Beth did a marvelous job of capturing her Camino and much of mine. I can see some of the sights again, the sunrises, the amazing stonework, the clothes drying in the afternoons, the passers by, the cultivated for centuries and still natural landscapes. I almost again feel the foot pain, the rain , the sun, the climbs, the descents, the hot cold on off showers, and the hugs. She helped me again hear the news from Radio Camino, the snoring in the gites and albergues, songs on the road, and the slightly tipsy and slightly loud cafe conversations. I could smell the the morning coffee bowl, the cheeses, the pastries, the animal dropping. And she helped me remember speedy young pilgrims, poor and semi-prosperous middle age Spaniards, paths that were old when followed by Charlemagne, D'Artagnan, and Roman legionnaires, and friends, companions and acquaintancesof all ages and duration. Very well done. Thank you Beth. Buen Camino...

Entertaining and informative
Format: Kindle
Walking the Camino has been on my bucket list for about 10 years and enjoy reading these types of books. Perhaps because of Justino's background, this is by far the most interesting and entertaining Camino story I've read. For me, it is just the right mix of her daily hiking experience along with a little historical background for context. Her subtle, sometimes self-degrading, humor is a bonus. At the end of the book she provided her daily destinations and miles walked along with a packing list which is something I wish more authors would provide. I'm in my 60's now and beginning to doubt if I will ever make the walk but after reading this book I'm still hoping.
