Notes

Original compositions by Henning Sieverts, Pietro Tonolo, Roberto Dani Pietro Tonolo, saxophones / Henning Sieverts, doublebass and cello / Roberto Dani, drums and percussions 24Bit / 96 kHz Digital Recording. Live in studio at Torresino Theatre (Padova, Italy). July, 1998

Henning Sieverts is a young, but already established German jazzman. Cellist, double bassist, but above all Author, a long-time friend of Pietro Tonolo. From their love for Venice was born the main suite of this CD. The percussionist Roberto Dani is a welcome guest, whose rhythmic and timbral richness allows us to appreciate even more the extraordinary recording, made live without an audience with 24 Bit technology, in a small theater in Padua, with warm and enveloping tones.

Brought the adventure to life
Format: Paperback
I didn’t expect to feel so pulled into these ancient stories, but this translation made the adventures and struggles feel real and vivid. The language is modern enough to understand easily but keeps the weight and drama of Homer’s world. It’s the kind of book that makes you appreciate why these stories have lasted so long, and it’s been a rewarding read I’m glad I added to my shelf.

Finally made Homer click for me
Format: Paperback
I’ve tried reading The Iliad and The Odyssey before but always got lost in the language. This translation is clear and smooth while keeping the epic feel of the stories. It helped me actually enjoy the characters and battles without feeling like I was stuck in a high school assignment. It’s made these classics feel alive and human, and I’m glad I gave it another try with this version.

Epic tales that still resonate
Format: Paperback
I dove into Dawson’s twin translation of The Iliad and The Odyssey hoping for clarity—and instead found myself struck by their emotional pull. Achilles’ fury, Hector’s honor, Odysseus’ longing for home—it all felt immediate and real. Dawson’s language flows so naturally, I forgot I was reading an ancient text. There were moments I stopped and sighed, moved by how these characters still speak to our hearts today.

I’ve been taking my time with this, and it’s been surprisingly relaxing to read on slow mornings. It feels clear and easy to follow, which makes these stories feel alive instead of like homework. Glad I gave it a try.

Timeless adventure, beautifully retold
Format: Paperback
I started with The Iliad, expecting a dry history lesson, and ended up caught in the drama of gods and men. Then The Odyssey stole my evenings—each chapter like an invitation back into wonder. Superb translation.
