A Global Cult Phenomenon | The Connoisseur’s Choice

Widely regarded by tinned fish aficionados as one of the "Top 5" tins in existence, this sought-after release from Jose Gourmet has achieved legendary status within the conservas world. This unique tin features premium sardines preserved not in oil, but in a rich, artisanal butter sourced from the Portuguese islands of the Azores. Famous for their volcanic soil and lush, grass-fed pastures, the Azores produce a butter that is incredibly yellow, high in fat, and deeply creamy—providing a decadent, "chef’s secret" pairing for the humble sardine.

The culinary magic occurs through a process of gentle poaching; the sardines essentially confit within the churned butter, resulting in a velvety, melt-in-the-mouth texture that oil-based preserves simply cannot replicate. Infused with a sophisticated hint of lemon, it is a modern homage to a traditional coastal recipe that offers a completely different mouthfeel to anything else in your pantry.

Serving Suggestions: This is a gourmet experience that demands heat. Because it contains genuine churned butter, the contents will be solid at room temperature and must be warmed to unlock their full potential.

  • The Preparation: Gently empty the entire contents of the tin into a small pan over low heat. Allow the butter to melt slowly until the sardines are warmed through and the lemon aromatics are released.
  • The Presentation: Serve the sardines and the golden, liquefied butter over warm, crusty sourdough or a bed of steamed kipfler potatoes.
  • To Finish: Once the fish is gone, ensure you have plenty of bread on hand to soak up every last drop of the lemon-infused liquid gold.

Fantastic and Thought-Provoking
Mishima is a complicated figure in literary and Japanese history, but this film manages to capture the complexity of the man without seeming like it either loves or hates him. Great cinematography and the reenactments of Mishima's stories are wonderful. Music is fantastic as well.

Great movie, DVD shipped quickly and in good repair
This is an excellent movie made by one of Scorsese's assistants on Taxi Driver. Combining factual detail with highly stylized excerpts from Mishima's writing, the movie seeks to explain the enigma of this well-known Japanese author. Mishima was a prolific writer, an actor, ran his own private military academy, and in his early forties attempted to bring back the emperor and Bushido to Japanese society. Anyone familiar with the Mishima story knows things ended badly, with Mishima committing traditional Japanese sepuku. The music by Philip Glass adds great dramatic enhancement!

In my opinion this is one of the greatest films ever made
In my opinion this is one of the greatest films ever made, So beautifully shot and composed. An incredible true story that brings goosebumps even after repeated viewings, The extras include a documentary about Mishima that is excellent. Even after seeing this movie and all the extras, reading Mishima’s books and researching him online, I am still puzzled by the man and his myth. Watch this film!!! It will blow you away!
