The fossil is matrix free and measures 55 mm (2.2 inches) across. It consists of several jaw bones form the skull of an ichthyosaur that are preserved lying on top of one another. The bone is well preserved and has been prepared using air abrasive techniques to remove all matrix.
It has exceptional detail in its preservation and a nice chocolate-brown colour. The blood vessel channels and internal details of the jaw are highly intricate and very well preserved. It is unusual to find multiple bones preserved together in this way from this location.
These fossils were first found by pioneering Victorian fossils hunters like Mary Anning. Ichthyosaur bones are very popular fossils from this location.
Around 198 million years old (Sinemurian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
