Is this for you?
✔️ Good if:
- You want a colourful nano schooling fish
- You enjoy top to mid-water activity
- You have a planted or aquascaped tank
- You are happy to keep a proper group
❌ Avoid if:
- You keep aggressive or large fish
- You plan to keep just a few
- You want a bottom-dwelling species
- You have a completely open-top tank (jump risk)
Why this fish?
Oryzias woworae is known for its bright blue body and red-orange fins, making it a standout nano fish in planted aquariums.
Unlike many nano fish, it prefers the upper levels of the tank, adding movement and colour where many tanks are otherwise empty.
Common mistakes
- Keeping too few → reduces colour and natural behaviour
- Keeping in open-top tanks → risk of jumping
- Pairing with aggressive or fast-moving fish
- Expecting bottom-dwelling behaviour
- Underestimating their need for group dynamics
Care made simple
- Temperature: 22–28°C
- Diet: Small pellets, flakes, frozen foods
- Group size: 6+ recommended
- Setup: Plants, open swimming space
- Water: Clean, stable
Pair with
- Micro pellets / quality flakes
- Planted setups
- Peaceful nano fish
- Shrimp-compatible tanks
These fish colour up significantly in groups and planted tanks. Many customers underestimate how much better they look in proper numbers.
FAQ
Are they good for beginners?
Yes. They are relatively hardy when kept in stable conditions.
Where do they swim in the tank?
Mostly top to mid-water, unlike many nano fish that stay lower.
Can I keep just a few?
Not recommended. They show best colour and behaviour in groups of at least 6.
Do they jump?
Yes, they can jump, so a lid or covered tank is recommended.
Are they shrimp-safe?
Generally yes, especially with larger shrimp, though very small shrimplets may be at risk.
