The seed that eventually led to the release of GET HAPPY, Pink Martini's seventh studio album, was planted in January 2012 when founder Thomas Lauderdale visited Phyllis Diller and recorded the song "Smile" with her. This would end up being the final song recorded by Diller prior to her passing, making the moment especially timeless and bittersweet.
