COURSE OVERVIEW:
Welcome to the Write an Effective Diversity Policy course. This program has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop, implement and review an organisational diversity policy that aligns with legislation, organisational goals and contemporary workforce expectations. You will explore the meaning of diversity, the importance of conscious diversity practice, how to assess current organisational performance and how to embed diversity into vision, mission and operational strategies. You will also examine legislative requirements, policy drafting techniques, stakeholder consultation processes and methods for evaluating the effectiveness of policy implementation.
This course begins by examining how to review current organisational practices and information. This learning area explores what diversity means, what conscious practice of diversity involves and how to gather and understand workplace information related to diversity. It also examines the federal and state legislation that applies to workplace diversity and equal opportunity in Australia, providing a foundation for lawful, ethical and inclusive organisational policies.
The next learning area focuses on the strategic importance of diversity. This section examines the benefits of diversity in relation to business objectives, how diversity can and should form part of organisational goals and how to acknowledge diversity within a vision, mission or business objective. You will also explore the purpose and components of a diversity statement and identify the key stakeholders whose requirements must be considered when developing a diversity policy.
Another learning area addresses organisational planning for diversity. You will examine how to plan an organisational strategy, what research and references should be considered when developing a policy and how to approach stakeholders with necessary information. This section also explores why accessing other organisations’ diversity policies is valuable and what factors should be examined when reviewing external policies. You will also explore approaches to embracing productive diversity across teams and departments.
A further learning area focuses on drafting a diversity policy. You will explore what is covered in a diversity policy, what to consider when drafting the policy and the standard content of a diversity policy document. This section also examines how to create effective action plans to support policy implementation, including the specific content of workplace diversity action plans and the importance of consulting stakeholders on draft policy documents and associated action plans.
Another learning area addresses policy implementation and integration. You will explore the relationships between the diversity policy and other organisational policies, how to revise the diversity policy for implementation and what is included in a policy review. This section also examines how to explain the policy to key stakeholders, how to promote the diversity policy across the organisation and what additional materials may support the communication and understanding of the policy.

You will explore the intended and unintended impacts of diversity policy implementation, the tools available for planning and measuring policy impact and how to measure the results of implementation. This section also examines how to ensure a diversity policy is effectively implemented and what review processes are required to maintain ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
The final learning area examines how to refine and update the diversity policy. You will explore the ways to gather and analyse information from policy implementation, how to make changes to the diversity policy and how to refine the document so it remains aligned with organisational needs, legislation and workforce expectations over time.
By the end of this course you will be able to examine organisational practices, draft and refine diversity policies, create and implement action plans, consult stakeholders effectively, measure policy performance and ensure diversity initiatives remain aligned with organisational values, legal requirements and strategic business objectives.
