Die zehn Kilometer lange und fünf Kilometer breite Gebirgskette Montserrat liegt 50 km nördlich von Kataloniens Hauptstadt Barcelona. Höchster Gipfel ist mit 1236 m Höhe der Sant Jeroni. Ein ganz besonderes Ausflugsziel und unbedingtes "Muss" bei einem Barcelona Besuch ist das berühmte Benediktinerkloster Santa Maria de Montserrat auf 720 m Höhe im Osten des Gebirges. Nach dem Klosterbesuch sollte man mit der Standseilbahn hinauf zum Sant Jeroni fahren. Eine Wanderung durch die aus Sandstein bestehende Gebirgsregion und hinab zum Kloster führt durch eine traumhaft schöne Berglandschaft.
